$1 to $1000 on Poker Stars

I haven’t posted in a while because it’s been a downward spiral once again.  I got the bankroll back up to about $450 and then decided to start playing $1/$2 limit ring games.  Of course I got slapped in the face and continued to get railed until I got down to about $100 where I decided I needed to slow down and refocus once again.  I’m back playing the $3 TSNGs and $0.25/$0.50 ring games once again.  It sucks, but it’s a learning process.

I did reap the benefits of my first stake.  The Pocket Fives OT crowd stakes a poster each week in the Sunday Million.  If you are one of the first 20 people to shoot $10 to the horse for that week, you are one of the stakers and get a share of that person’s winnings.  The horse a couple weeks ago was Underdog and he went deep and eventually finished 43rd after taking a few awful beats.  I received $63.31 back on my $10 investment, pretty much the only positive thing that has happened for me recently on Stars.

The Pocket Fives OT WCOOP league finished up last Wednesday and I ended up in 3rd place.  The top 4 spots paid out, so I won a buy-in into a $215 WCOOP event.  My first choice was going to be Razz, second choice was going to be Stud High Low, and my third choice was going to be HORSE.  The Razz event is today at 3:30 pm central, so I wouldn’t be home from work in time.  The SHL event is a $530 buy-in, so I’m passing on that too.  So I will be playing the HORSE event on Saturday which kicks off at 3:30 pm CDT.  Not much has been going on otherwise, holding pretty steady.  Hopefully I place well on Saturday in order to give a good boost to my bankroll.

I apologize for not posting in a while, but not much has been going on.  I decided to join the Pocket Fives OT WCOOP League as a VIP which means that I shelled out $55.  This qualifies me for entry into the $530 main event if I do well enough.  I decided to do this because after the first few events I was at the top of the leaderboard.  Hopefully I can retain momentum and finish at the top, if not in 1st (currently 2nd after 9 events, with 5 events to go).  I also placed a bounty on my head for the SHL tournament and was 2 outed on 7th street to finish in 4th place.

Once I got the bankroll up to $500, I started to lose focus a bit.  I started playing outside the bankroll by taking a shot at the $3 rebuy.  I also played a few $3, $4, and $5 MTTs with no success.  After dropping down to about $300, I’m on the way back up again.

-$60.50 P5s OT League

Last night was the 2nd tournament of the Pocket Fives OT Poker League.  It was a $10 buy-in, Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) tournament.  I went into it with low expectations because I’m not very good at PLO, but at the same time many people aren’t.  I ran pretty well and actually took the thing down for $130.  I’m currently in 4th place on the leaderboard which I’m guessing would get me a $215 buy-in into the WCOOP.  There are many tournaments to go, so 4th isn’t a guarantee.  This Sunday’s tournament is Stud 8b, a game where I think I excel.  So I hope to have another good showing. 

Once I hit $400 I started mixing in the $15+$1 TSNGs, and so far this hasn’t worked out.  I’m going to keep mixing them in at a slow rate and I know that the variance will come back around.  I started out very slow on the $6+$0.50s also, and that came around.  With a bankroll over $500, I can finally play the $5 donkaments and maybe make a huge score to finally end this thing.  I’m very happy with my progress as of late, so I’m going to tread carefully as to not set myself back a ways.

So I finally won my first $2 180-man TSNG last night.  There are a lot of variance in these (as to be expected), and finally had my hands hold up.  1st was worth $112 and 2nd was worth $78.  The other guy wanted to chop for $90 a piece, but I knew that I could outplay him.  Luckily there were no bad beats heads up. 

I also got the bug recently to try some Pot Limit Omaha.  I think that this will be short lived as I didn’t fare too well and it’s very frustrating to have the nuts on the flop, the turn, only to be drawn out on the river when you’re pot betting every street.  Hopefully things continue to be on the up and up as I’ve been in this range for quite some time now and am really looking forward to advancing.
